Talyn's perception amazes me sometimes... he questions EVERYTHING. It can be really irritating if you can't answer his questions to his satisfaction and really thought provoking, at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I want my children to question everything. God made us to question, so that He can provide the answers. Besides, believing something simply because someone says or believes it is never a good thing. It's just, sometimes I feel like I am putting together a puzzle and the end result will never truly be visible. Plugging away day by day, trying to raise respectful yet questioning children with a heart for Jesus, while attempting to walk that line between sheltering them and smothering them... filling their minds with knowledge and their hearts with true purpose. It's a responsibility that can feel thankless and impossible. That balance beam can feel 1/8th inch wide. I often secretly wonder if I am really messing this up. Then there are the days that complete strangers will come up to me to let me know how amazing they think my children are, how even when I am not watching they more often than not will make the correct choice or the days that people who have known them their whole lives let me know that they are just blown away at how cool and smart my kids are.... reminding me that the path God chooses is always better than the one you could pick.
And then today, Talyn reminded me that while I may plant the seeds, HE is growing them.
On a fly by to the kitchen he comes out with... "Hey Mom, I was watching this documentary on Oil Use and one of the men said "I don't care who you worship, Oil is your God.""... he paused for a second and I waited to see where he was going to take this, with a small amount of dread. "Where does he think the oil came from??" he chuckled a little bit and bounced in to the kitchen for a snack.
Talyn knows, scientifically, how oil is made and produced (and it's economic and environmental effects) ... but he doesn't accept that all the elements appearing where they are is some cosmic coincidence, even though many of the science shows we watch hard sell that theory.
And, once again, I am amazed at the way he is made. What a seriously cool kid :)
FYI the documentary was A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash. It's in netflix's instant watch library.

Heard While Out to Lunch today....
"MOM Sylver just sprayed SPIT on me with her straw!" (that's Talyn, looking disgusted)
-Snort- .... that's me trying not to outright LAUGH, because, after all, I am a mature adult.
"It's not funny, Mommy! Sylver Spit could be classified as a Bio-Hazard Weapon!"
Outright Laughter could be heard all around... and not just from me :)

Talyn's Summer Vacation
Talyn left for Florida today with Aunt Angel. He was really apprehensive about flying today and it was hard to see him struggle with fear. He cried at the airport, but tried to be brave and quickly rubbed his tears away. That broke my heart. I cried on the way home. All part of growing up, I know. Both of us are growing.. he is learning to stand on his own faith and strength. I am learning when to let him stand strong... I am in constant conflict with that mothering instinct that screams in my head- QUICK! Pull him back in to the safe circle of our family and protect him always.
I told him on the way to the airport that when he felt fearful to pray about it. He looked at me in the rear view mirror with a DUH look on his face and said, Mom I prayed about it 5 times at summer kids club. I assured him that God was listening to each and every prayer. It brought me peace to know that he brought it to God first and then me.
The psalm at Summer Kids Club today was Be Still and Know That I am God.
I think I will go do that for awhile.

Talyn's Weekly Food For Thought....

Talyn decided to have his hair cut yesterday. He went from a thick shoulder length mop to a buzz cut (He calls it a military cut, but it isn't quite that short).
I will try to post pictures by Wednesday. We are off to the Philly Zoo for the day with Aunt Angel and Mr. Jim.
For now, here is a before from about a month ago. :)

A Full Decade.... aka Talyn is TEN!

I can't believe 10 years flew by so quickly. I feel like the mom of a 4 year old and an infant... a ten year old... nope, not possible.
Talyn had a very nice birthday! He went to Friendly's with me, the girls, Greatie, Mr. Jim and Grandma (who flew in for a few days!). He got a remote control car from Mr. Jim that he couldn't wait to take home and try out on the frozen tundra that is our backyard! He got e-mail wishes and phone calls, cards and some money for his savings account (his doing! He doesn't want to spend it!). He also gets to go to a car show with Grandpa in the morning! He is up late playing video games with Daddy for a special treat. Speaking of special treats we got him a cupcake Cake from the local supermarket and not only was it Delish it was FUN! We fingerpainted with the primary color icing to make all kinds of cool colors and then the girls and I had a frosting food fight, LOL. I won.
That "You'll Be Grounded for LIFE" card works every time.
He has reminded me at least a dozen times today that in 3 years he will be a TEENAGER and go completely crazy, consequently causing me to sprout at least 5 more grey hairs!
In honor of our little man who is going to be taller than me very shortly, here are some Talynism's
1. Ridiclee US (ridiculous)
2. Remembory (some strange memory and remember hybrid)
3. Tofogropher -still says this one!- (Photographer)
4. Ka SplO sion (explosion)
5. Baby Soup (bathing suit)
And Talyn's quote of the day... (mind you this is before my morning cup of coffee, so it was ESPECIALLY out of the blue).
"If Daddy sat on my face and farted I would have to go to the hospital for 3rd degree burns"
Thanks Talyn :)

Talyn's Weekly Food For Thought....

The Scene....
The Liebmann Family Kitchen
Talyn- Dancing around in boxer's that are two sizes two small (someone PLEASE make that kid stop growing!) and singing "I'm Different Different Different And That's Alright With Me"
Me, shaking my head at his complete and utter self confidence and smiling, "Yes you are"
Talyn-Going completely still (this is an event in itself!) looks at me and says, "Mom, I AM different, and So are you... so is EVERYBODY.... so nobody's different!"
I love that little goofball.
